Consecutive interpreting, or interpreting after the speaker has spoken, is an exercise in which the interpreter who is one of the participants listens to the speech and retransmits it at the end, in another language, usually with the help of notes. Nowadays, consecutive interpretation has largely given way to simultaneous interpretation, but it is still useful in certain contexts (such as highly technical meetings, working lunches, small committee meetings or field visits).
