Italy is a member of the European Union: for public documents covered by EU Regulation 2016/1191 (birth, marriage, death, nationality, absence of a criminal record…), an apostille is no longer required in Belgium.
Ask the Italian municipality (Comune) that issues the certificate for a multilingual standard form to attach to it: in principle, this makes a translation unnecessary. For other documents (diplomas, judgments, company documents), or if your commune asks for a translation, a sworn translator translates your document into French or Dutch.
A Belgian document for use in Italy
A Belgian birth or marriage certificate to be registered in Italy, an inheritance, a job, university enrolment: we translate your Belgian documents into Italian, using Italian legal terminology.
If you are registered with AIRE, your consulate will tell you which documents to provide and in what form. Between Belgium and Italy, no apostille is required for public documents covered by EU Regulation 2016/1191. Check with the Italian authority which form of translation it accepts: we will help you understand its request.
What matters in a sworn translation from Italian
Estratto or copia integrale
We translate the version requested by the authority: extract (estratto per riassunto) or full copy (copia integrale).
Names and codice fiscale
Names, codice fiscale and certificate numbers are reproduced exactly.
Italian diplomas
Laurea triennale, laurea magistrale, voto di laurea: each title is translated precisely.
Marginal notes
The annotazioni (marriage, divorce, change of name) are translated too.
Driving licence
An Italian driving licence is valid in Belgium, like any licence issued in the European Union: you do not need to exchange it or have it translated to drive.

Frequently asked questions about sworn translation from Italian
Does an Italian birth certificate need to be translated for the commune?
Not always. If a European multilingual standard form is attached to the certificate, a translation is in principle not needed. Otherwise, the commune asks for a sworn translation into French or Dutch, depending on the language of your file.
Does an Italian document need an apostille?
Not for public documents covered by EU Regulation 2016/1191 (birth, marriage, nationality, absence of a criminal record…). For other documents, check the requirements of the Belgian authority: we can help you with that.
Do you translate Italian diplomas for recognition of equivalence?
Yes: diploma, transcript of exams and the other documents requested by the equivalence service of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles or by NARIC-Vlaanderen.
Do you also translate into Italian?
Yes. We translate in both directions: from Italian into French, Dutch or English, and from those languages into Italian.
How much does a sworn translation from Italian cost?
The price depends on the document, its length and the deadline. Send a photo: you receive a fixed price within 5 minutes.
